About (old)
Note:This is my original “About” page. It’s pretty dumb. It’s being preserved for historical purposes.
“Shaking Off” is the literal translation of the Arabic word intifada (انتفاضة) which can also be translated as “uprising” or “throwing rocks at Jews.” Intifada is a word that is often used by opponents of democracy to justify their terrorist ways. I’m taking it “back”. I originally was going to go so far as have my blog’s tagline be “The New Intifada” but I figured I might be prematurely pegged as Islamist. I also considered “Christian Democracy in America” which is both a shout out to Alexis de Tocqueville and my desire to introduce introduce the greatest political ideology to North American soil. That still wouldn’t do so for now I’ve settled on “The ‘Independent Whig’ Tribune,” but I have a feeling that name isn’t permanent. The term “Independent Whig” is a reference to the self-identification of British Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger. Pitt is somewhat of a kindred spirit for me, along with his contemporaries Fox and Burke.
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT. GET USED TO IT. OTHERWISE, CRY ME A RIVER, BUILD A BRIDGE AND get over it. HA HA.
Basically this blog is about whatever I want it to be but mainly I focus on politics, religion and music because those are the subjects that most interest me and I am most knowledgeable about. Politically I consider myself to be a Christian democrat, an ideology that is sadly non-existent in North America but is quite popular in Europe, Latin America and the Philippines. Other than that you could call me a Third way radical centrist but unlike many centrists (Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Paul Martin) who approach the centre from the left, my background is conservative. As for religion I’m a church-going monotheist who was raised Mennonite but lapsed into agnosticism for a few years. My ultimate goal is to convert to episcopal polity Christianity, perhaps an Anglican or Lutheran-based denomination, but this is hampered by my staunch support for anabaptism and my skepticism surrounding the doctrine of the Trinity. I’ve also toyed with the idea of founding my own denomination.
My name is Benjamin P. Weber. Also known as “Lairor.”
